Yes, there really is a Big John.
That would be John Healey, the owner and founder of Big John’s Moving. It all began in 1977, when John was working at a fruit market in Manhattan. Customers saw that John had a truck and would ask him to help them move. John soon realized that he could make more money moving things than selling produce, so he formed his own moving company.
Starting with just one truck, he added a vehicle a year as the business steadily expanded. Today, Big John’s has grown into a thriving, full-service moving company with an impressive fleet of “green” energy-efficient vehicles and a professionally-trained staff, hand-picked by Big John himself.
“Moving is one of the most stressful times in anybody’s life. The biggest part of our job is to make things easier for our customers.
Every job gets the best service. We have many of the same movers who have been with us for over 20 years. And some of our clients are the children and grandchildren of people they moved many years ago.”
– John Healey, President & Owner
Excellent customer service, scrupulous honesty, and a painstaking attention to detail are the keys to our success. John personally supervises all the crews to make sure that they adhere to his high standards of service. The son of a navy admiral, John runs his moving business with the precision and teamwork of a naval aircraft carrier. For example, only the foreman is allowed to talk to the customer as boxes can be lost or dropped if the moving crew is too chatty and not paying attention to the task at hand.
John also believes in giving back to the community. He has made many financial contributions and in-kind donations to move items for The Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York, the Salvation Army, the High School of Art and Design, and local religious organizations.
John Healy has been a LEFSA donor and supporter for the past 10 years. He sponsors our annual Central Park picnic, Thanksgiving, and Christmas celebrations, where we feed over 300 people, provides toys and clothing for children at Christmas, and donates gifts for homeless people living in shelters and on the street.
John also rents buses for our annual retreats and is an ongoing sponsor of our monthly Saturday Leadership Study Day Program, providing funds for nourishing food.
Big John’s also has a big heart! They made a very charitable offer and moved a couch that was being donated to a local church. Many thanks from St. Joseph’s Church and myself.
Thank you so much for your generous gift. Because of the kindness and financial contributions of people like you, the Church is able to cover our day-to-day operational expenses, but more importantly, do the ministry of the Church.
